A street dance is a dance style that has evolved outside of the studio setting. These styles are often improvisational and social in nature, encouraging interaction and contact with spectators and other dancers. They are also a part of the vernacular culture of the geographical area that they come from, but how did they begin?
Disclosure: Exploring Dance seeks to spread knowledge and information of the street dance culture for those looking to become involved.
Beginning with the visual identity I wanted to utilize photography and include those who are a part of the scene or culture themselves. Striving away from the common conception of what a street dancer would look like, I wanted to create a look that would be cohesive and demonstrate a sense of elegance and gravitas.
Each model used in the photos were asked to perform poses that showcased their dance styles and personalities that set them apart. Following this, music was played and they were asked to freestyle as action shots were captured.
Breaking away from a traditional navigation bar, images relative to their dance style will be used. Each menu item will also contain its own color scheme to differentiate them from the rest.
As you leave the navigation each page will include a brief background of each dance style. Moving further, sub-genres will be incorporated mimicking this concept.
Beyond that is a list of fundamental elements relative to their dance styles, which will in a later date become links that reveal a montage of what these elements would look like in context.
